Abacus Jack was founded in 2015 by Andy Thomas. We serve clients across the UK and use the latest and best technology to complement core accountancy and bookkeeping services.

We are a small team with around 20 years experience in bookkeeping, accountancy, software technology, payment technology, taxation and finance. This combined experience led to a series of questions around why bookkeeping services were not more accessible to smaller businesses, and why services were still so manual, paper based, and expensive.

The concept of Abacus Jack was therefore born out of the frustration with the offerings, costs, and restrictions associated with traditional bookkeeping services and in particular the technology (or lack of) which they use.

Since starting the business we have attracted a diverse range of clients and continue to grow our own team, without compromising on the personal and human nature of our service. We have a 100% record of 5 star reviews, and continue to provide a dedicated service to clients.

Andy Thomas

Andy started his career as an Officer in the Royal Navy, before making the transition to civilian life and pursuing a varied career with roles in banking, accountancy, utilities, financial services and IT. Andy applies a simple working ethos which is based around effective leadership, integrity, enjoying work, and going the extra mile for every client. It is these values which were at the forefront of his vision to start Abacus Jack and provide a trusted, reliable, and great value bookkeeping / accountancy service to small businesses in the North East and wider area.

Stephanie Wilson


Stephanie joined the team in 2019 as a Junior Accountant. Steph’s energy, enthusiasm and positivity were a natural fit for the business.

Steph is AAT Level 3 Qualified, and currently working towards AAT Level 4. However, her skills and abilities stretch far beyond accountancy and she has taken the lead in managing our marketing strategy and communication, as well as improvements to our own back office functions. An invaluable addition to the team.
