Abacus Jack

A small business dedicated to helping other small businesses

Abacus Jack was started by Andy and Helen Thomas in 2016. They each have around 20 years experience in finance, bookkeeping, technology, and business consultancy. This combined experience led to a series of questions around why bookkeeping is not simpler, more accessible, and more affordable; particulary for the smallest of businesses, who are still required to keep business records and pay tax in the same way as more established businesses.

The concept of Abacus Jack was therefore born out of the frustration with the offerings, costs, and restrictions associated with traditional bookkeeping services and in particular the technology (or lack of) which they use.

We have attracted a diverse range of clients and continue to grow our own team, without compromising on the personal and human nature of our service. Clients will always deal with the same person and have access to their direct email and phone. Alongside this, is our ethos of encouraging clients to ask as many questions as they need - we never charge for advice or support.

We are authorised HMRC agents, and are also a Free Agent friendly partner. This award winning accountancy software is trusted by over 50,000 UK businesses and all our clients have access to their own Abacus Jack Free Agent account, together with our unlmited help and support.

"We aim to make our customers lives better by removing the worry, uncertainly, and burden of bookkeeping and taxation.

What's important to us...

We want you to love working with us, and love contacting us. That's why we uphold the following values:

Honesty - We will always act with honesty and integrity in everything we do for you.

Clarity - We will always be clear about our costs, services, and what you can expect from us.

Energy  - We love what we do and we want this to be reflected in how we deal with our clients. Bookkeeping is fun - right?

Approachable - there is no such thing as a silly question. If you need to ask us something - ask. Running a business can be daunting. We genuinely want to to make your business work and that's why all our client packages place no restriction on how much support we offer.

How to get in contact

We love to hear from new and existing customers. Email, call or arrange to meet us. Just because we operate a digital service, it doesn't mean there isn't a human at the end of the phone, or available to meet. We usually meet clients at the very pleasant and informal surroundings of  Durham's Rivergreen Business Centre, or we can meet you at another location convenient for you.
